HE HAD TO RISE

Rodney Griffin

He didn't have to open the eyes of the blind
To prove that He was Lord
And He knew they'd still doubt Him if he fed five thousand
With the lunch of one little boy
To cleanse every leaper wouldn't settle for ever
The fact that God had come down
There'd be only one proof that He was telling the truth
When His body was laid in the ground

He to rise to show He was holy
He had to rise to finish the story
To pardon iniquity He had to die
But to bring me the victory, He had to rise

If He were not living, I'd be forever bound
By the chains of evil and my strife
And if he had not risen, there'd be no hope for heaven
No chance for eternal life
But since he has conquered death's sting forever
I now have reason to shout
'Cause from a dark lonely tomb the greatest Sonlight broke through
When my Savior came walking out

He to rise to show He was holy
He had to rise to finish the story
To pardon iniquity He had to die
But to bring me the victory, He had to rise

BEYOND THE CROSS

Needing strength for my journey, I knelt at the cross
Where Jesus once died for me
And I asked, “Is this the place where hope abides?”
And this He said to me:

“Beyond the Cross is a tomb that is empty
You won’t find Me there anymore
And beyond the tomb is life ever-lasting
And hope forever more.”

Then I sought reassurance and I went to the tomb
To the place where His body once laid
And I cried, “Lord, help me see. Is there hope here for me?”
And this I heard Him say:

“Beyond the Cross is a tomb that is empty
You won’t find Me there anymore
And beyond the tomb is life ever-lasting
And hope forever more.”

THE NIGHT BEFORE EASTER

Donnie Sumner and Dwayne Friend

The night was so different from all the rest
And a silence covers the earth;
The stars have no glimmer, the moon tries to hide,
For in death lies the man of their birth.

In a room filled with sorrow, a mother cries
For Jesus, her Son now is gone;
Her child sent from heaven was taken away,
Heart broken she feels all alone.

At the feet of his mother a little boy cries
Saying "Momma, I don't understand;"
I remember the look of love in His eyes,
That I saw, by the touch of His hand.

The King of all ages, the Giver of life,
For a moment lies silent and still;
But a power sent from heaven comes breaking the night,
And death must bow to His will.

Then a stone moves, the earth shakes, the birds start singing,
The sun shines, the earth warms, for new life it's bringing;
A little boy stops crying, a mother is smiling,
For death could not hold their King

GLORIOUS DAY

Wilbur Chapman, Charles Marsh, & Mark Hall

One day when Heaven was filled with His praises
One day when sin was as black as could be
Jesus came forth to be born of a virgin
Dwelt among men, my example is He
Word became flesh and the light shined among us
His glory revealed

Living, He loved me
Dying, He saved me
Buried, He carried my sins far away
Rising, He justified freely forever
One day He’s coming
Oh glorious day, oh glorious day

One day they led Him up Calvary’s mountain
One day they nailed Him to die on a tree
Suffering anguish, despised and rejected
Bearing our sins, my Redeemer is He
Hands that healed nations, stretched out on a tree
And took the nails for me

Living, He loved me
Dying, He saved me
Buried, He carried my sins far away
Rising, He justified freely forever
One day He’s coming
Oh glorious day, oh glorious day

One day the grave could conceal Him no longer
One day the stone rolled away from the door
Then He arose, over death He had conquered
Now He’s ascended, my Lord evermore
Death could not hold Him, the grave could not keep Him
From rising again

Living, He loved me
Dying, He saved me
Buried, He carried my sins far away
Rising, He justified freely forever
One day He’s coming
Oh glorious day, oh glorious day

One day the trumpet will sound for His coming
One day the skies with His glories will shine
Wonderful day, my Beloved One, bringing
My Savior, Jesus, is mine

I'LL RISE AGAIN

Dallas Holm

Go ahead drive the nails in My hands,
Laugh at Me where you stand.
Go ahead, and say it isn't Me,
The day will come when you will see,

'Cause I'll rise again.
There's no pow'r on earth can tie Me down.
Yes, I'll rise again,
Death can't keep Me in the ground.

Go ahead mock My name,
My love for you is still the same.
Go ahead and bury Me,
But very soon I will be free.

'Cause I'll rise again.
There's no pow'r on earth can tie Me down.
Yes, I'll rise again,
Death can't keep Me in the ground.

Go ahead, and say I'm dead and gone,
But you will see that you were wrong.
Go ahead, and try to hide the Son,
But all will see that I'm the One.

"Cause I'll come again.
There's no pow'r on earth can keep it back.
Yes, I'll come again;
Come to take My people back
Yes I'll come again;
Come to take My people back.

CHRIST AROSE

Robert Lowry

Low in the grave He lay,
Jesus my Savior,
Waiting the coming day,
Jesus my Lord!

Up from the grave He arose,
With a mighty triumph o’er His foes,
He arose a Victor from the dark domain,
And He lives forever, with His saints to reign.
He arose! He arose!
Hallelujah! Christ arose!

Vainly they watch His bed,
Jesus my Savior;
Vainly they seal the dead,
Jesus my Lord!

Up from the grave He arose,
With a mighty triumph o’er His foes,
He arose a Victor from the dark domain,
And He lives forever, with His saints to reign.
He arose! He arose!
Hallelujah! Christ arose!

Death cannot keep its Prey,
Jesus my Savior;
He tore the bars away,
Jesus my Lord!

Up from the grave He arose,
With a mighty triumph o’er His foes,
He arose a Victor from the dark domain,
And He lives forever, with His saints to reign.
He arose! He arose!
Hallelujah! Christ arose!

BECAUSE HE LIVES

Bill and Gloria Gaither

God sent His son, they called Him Jesus
He came to love, heal, and forgive.
He lived and died to buy my pardon,
An empty grave is there to prove my Savior lives.

Because He lives, I can face tomorrow.
Because He lives, All fear is gone.
Because I know He holds the future,
And life is worth the living just because He lives.

How sweet to hold a newborn baby,
And feel the pride and joy he gives.
But greater still the calm assurance,
This child can face uncertain days because He lives.

Because He lives, I can face tomorrow.
Because He lives, All fear is gone.
Because I know He holds the future,
And life is worth the living just because He lives.

And then one day I'll cross the river,
I'll fight life's final war with pain.
And then as death gives way to victory,
I'll see the lights of glory and I'll know He lives.

Because He lives, I can face tomorrow.
Because He lives, All fear is gone!
Because I know He holds the future
And life is worth the living just because He lives!

DAY THREE

Jerry Salley

Day One, They found him guilty
And sentenced him to die.
When The crowd heard the news
They shouted "Crucify".
Crowned with thorns; they mocked his name
And nailed him to a cross.
He hung there till his dying breath.
Day One, All hope was lost.

Day Two, It's still and quiet.
The crowd had all gone home.
His broken body in the tomb,
Sealed with the soldier's stone.
Believers who had followed him
Weep and question why.
Seeds of fear and doubt take hold.
Day Two, Disciples hide.

Day Three, His body's missing.
The stone was rolled away.
An angel of the Lord appeared
When the women came.
Trembling out of fear and joy.
Amazed at what they find,
They quickly run to spread the word.
Day Three, He is alive!

Day One, the hill ran crimson red
With blood to cleanse all sin.
Day Two reminds us keep the faith
When the doubts set in.
What a difference one day makes
From death to victory.
The cross became an empty grave
On Day Three.

HE'S ALIVE

Don Francisco

The gates and doors were barred
And all the windows fastened down
I spent the night in sleeplessness
And rose at every sound
Half in hope of sorrow
And half in fear the day
Would find the soldiers breakin' through
To drag us all away

And just before the sunrise
I heard something at the wall
The gate began to rattle
And a voice began to call
I hurried to the window
Looked down into the street
Expecting swords and torches
And the sound of soldiers' feet

But there was no one there but Mary
So I went down to let her in
John stood there beside me
As she told me where she'd been
She said they've moved Him in the night
And none of us know where
The stone's been rolled away
And now His body isn't there

We both ran towards the garden
Then John ran on ahead
We found the stone and empty tomb
Just the way that Mary said
But the winding sheet they wrapped Him in
Was just an empty shell
And how or where they'd taken Him
Was more than I could tell

Oh, something strange had happened there
Just what I did not know
John believed a miracle
But I just turned to go
Circumstance and speculation
Couldn't lift me very high
'Cause I'd seen them crucify Him
Then I saw Him die

Back inside the house again
The guilt and anguish came
Everything I'd promised Him
Just added to my shame
When at last it came to choices
I denied I knew His name
And even if He was alive
It wouldn't be the same

But suddenly the air was filled
With a strange and sweet perfume
Light that came from everywhere
Drove shadows from the room
And Jesus stood before me
With His arms held open wide
And I fell down on my knees
And I just clung to Him and cried

Then He raised me to my feet
And as I looked into His eyes
The love was shining out from Him
Like sunlight from the skies
Guilt in my confusion
Disappeared in sweet release
And every fear I ever had
Just melted into peace

He's alive, yes, He's alive
He's alive and I'm forgiven
Heaven's gates are open wide
He's alive, yes, He's alive
Oh, He's alive and I'm forgiven
Heaven's gates are open wide
He's alive; He's alive
Hallelujah, He's alive
He's alive and I'm forgiven
Heaven's gates are open wide
He's alive; He's alive; He's alive
I believe it-- He's alive
Sweet Jesus

WHEN THE STORY OF MY LIFE IS TOLD

Dianne Wilkinson & Scott Inman

We read in the Bible of a man named Paul,
Peter and John - good disciples all
We see their stories in the Holy pages
Faithful and true through the endless ages
I want to have a testimony too
Like Moses and Daniel and Elijah do
I want to stay on course like the men of old
When the story of my life is told

When the story of my life is told
When my past and the future unfold
When the Lord calls me home and the judgment comes
Will He welcome me? Will I hear, "Well done"
When the story of my life is told
Will it tell about a witness so bold
Will it say I kept the faith until my dying day
When the story of my life is told?

though I might stumble on the King's highway
Jesus will hear every time I pray
He'll pick me up and make me that much stronger
Help me walk just a little while longer
I want to live my life and testify
That whatever I need Jesus will supply
I want my life to show I met my goal
When the story of my life is told

When the story of my life is told
When my past and the future unfold
When the Lord calls me home and then the judgment comes
Will He welcome me? Will I hear, "Well done"
When the story of my life is told
Will it tell about a witness so bold
Will it say I kept the faith until my dying day
When the story of my life is told

THERE IS A KINGDOM COMING

Tony Wood and Barry Weeks

Ask me why I stand to sing
What glad tidings these lips bring
I proclaim to you one thing
There is a kingdom coming

Let this joyous anthem roll
Stirring peace within each soul
His plan's in place; God's in control
There is a kingdom coming

Every wrong will be made right
All that's faith will be made sight
End of shadows only light
There is a kingdom coming

Here amid these troubled times
Evil plots, his dark designs
But soon all faithless hearts will find
There is a kingdom coming

Every wrong will be made right
All that's faith will be made sight
End of shadows only light
There is a kingdom coming

So come, Lord Jesus, let all who hear
Sing "Come, Lord Jesus;" may the day be near

When every wrong will be made right
All that's faith will be made sight
End of shadows only light
There is a kingdom coming
