HEROES OF THE FAITH

Roger Bennett

I first met you at a singing
When I was just 16
You took the time to share with me
The reason why you sing
You said, "The road's not always easy,
But God is ever true."
You said, "Just share the good things
That He has done for you."

You became my hero of the faith,
Soldier of the cross
Singing out the grand old story:
Jesus saves the lost
And now it's time to lay your armor down
And pass the torch
You're still my hero of the faith,
Soldier of the cross.

I just got the news this morning
That you had slipped away
It's seem my heart was broken
It couldn't end this way
But then I saw with spirit eyes
The entrance you must have made
Running to the arms of Jesus
Finally Home to stay

With other heroes of the faith,
Soldiers of the cross
Singing out the grand old story:
Jesus saves the lost
And even though you've laid your armor down
And passed the torch
You're still my hero of the faith,
Soldier of the cross.

Roger wrote this song for one of his heroes of the faith, Glen Payne. Today, I would like to dedicate it in memory of Roger, one of my heroes of the faith.

FOR ALL THE DAYS THAT END IN "WHY?"

Author Unknown

How am I gonna make it and go on for heaven’s sake
I don’t think I can take it; my heart’s about to break
I wonder if he’ll be coming home; I wonder if she’s okay
Maybe the sun will shine again and chase all the rain away
I know there’s an answer to the questions of this life
We must be reminded; we must recognize

God is there through every hello and goodbye
God is there when I don’t even have the will to try
God is there; God is there
For all the days that end in why
For all the days that end in why

Why did she leave so early, and why doesn’t he understand
Why am I taken for granted; I’m doing the best I can
When will the pay get better; when will I make ends meet
When will I ever smile again; where is my life’s retreat
I know there’s an answer to the questions of this life
We must be reminded we must recognize

God is there through every hello and goodbye
God is there when I don’t even have the will to try
God is there; God is there
For all the days that end in why
For all the days that end in why

IN THE SWEET BY AND BY

Sanford F. Bennett

There’s a land that is fairer than day,
And by faith we can see it afar;
For the Father waits over the way
To prepare us a dwelling place there.

In the sweet by and by,
We shall meet on that beautiful shore;
In the sweet by and by,
We shall meet on that beautiful shore.

We shall sing on that beautiful shore
The melodious songs of the blessed;
And our spirits shall sorrow no more,
Not a sigh for the blessing of rest.

In the sweet by and by,
We shall meet on that beautiful shore;
In the sweet by and by,
We shall meet on that beautiful shore.

To our bountiful Father above,
We will offer our tribute of praise
For the glorious gift of His love
And the blessings that hallow our days.

In the sweet by and by,
We shall meet on that beautiful shore;
In the sweet by and by,
We shall meet on that beautiful shore.

YOU WERE FAITHFUL YESTERDAY

Babbie Mason & Rodney Griffin

Since the day that I surrendered
Many years have come and gone
Joy and sadness I remember
Lord, You were faithful all along

You brought me through my lowest valley
You brought me cross the desert dry
You were my Friend when I was lonely
You whispered peace and made me smile
As I survey the joy and sorrow
I find your love remains the same
So I will trust you for tomorrow
'Cause You were faithful yesterday

By Your mercy I'm still standing
By Your grace I have been saved
In Your goodness I'm still trusting
That you will take me all the way

You brought me through my lowest valley
You brought me cross the desert dry
You were my Friend when I was lonely
You whispered peace and made me smile
As I survey the joy and sorrow
I find your love remains the same
So I will trust you for tomorrow
'Cause You were faithful yesterday

DON'T TRY TO TELL ME

Now don’t try to tell me that God is dead
I just talked to Him this morning
Don’t try to tell me He’s not alive,
He lives within my heart
His Word is always by my side
And He brightens up the way
So don’t try to tell me that God is dead
I just talked to Him today

Now don’t try to tell me that God is dead,
His mighty army’s leading
I have no fear when He is near,
He takes good care of me
His rod and staff they comfort me,
I feast upon His love
His goodness and mercy shall follow me
Till I reach that home above

Now don’t try to tell me that God is dead
I just talked to Him this morning
Don’t try to tell me He’s not alive,
He lives within my heart
His Word is always by my side
And He brightens up the way
So don’t try to tell me that God is dead
I just talked to Him today

Now some folks claim that God is dead
And that’s what the devil wanted
Satan’s been lying and deceiving man
Ever since time began
Well God can’t live in a wicked mind
Or a life’s that filled with sin
The thing to do is put the devil out,
Get the love of God within

Now don’t try to tell me that God is dead
I just talked to Him this morning
Don’t try to tell me He’s not alive,
He lives within my heart
His Word is always by my side
And He brightens up the way
So don’t try to tell me that God is dead
I just talked to Him today

THERE IS HOPE

Sometimes we go through trials
That are so hard to bear
We lift our face toward heaven,
"God, are You really there?"
But I've asked that same question,
And I've been down that road
Looking back, I now can tell You,
He's always let me know

There is hope, so hold on,
There is hope
God has sent me here to tell you,
"There is hope."
And He knows just what you're going through
And what the future holds
As long as Jesus lives,
There is hope

He was bruised for our transgressions
And nailed upon a tree
He cried out to the Father,
"Why have You forsaken me?"
But through this suffering Savior,
He brought healing to our pain
And the One Who raised Him from the dead
Can restore us all again

There is hope, so hold on,
There is hope
God has sent me here to tell you,
"There is hope."
And He knows just what you're going through
And what the future holds
As long as Jesus lives,
There is hope

He promised He would share our sorrows
And bear our heavy load
This road that we are traveling
Will one day turn to gold

There is hope, so hold on,
There is hope
God has sent me here to tell you,
"There is hope"
And He knows just what you're going through
And what the future holds
As long as Jesus lives,
There is hope

GOODBYE, WORLD, GOODBYE

Hovie Lister

I've told all my troubles "goodbye,"
Goodbye to each tear and each sigh.
This world where I roam cannot be my home,
I'm bound for that home in the sky.
I walk and I talk with my Lord,
I feast every day on His Word,
Heaven is near, and I can't stay here
Goodbye, world, goodbye.

I won't have the blues anymore
When I step across to that shore.
And I'll never pine for I'll leave behind
My heartaches and cares ever more.
A day maybe two then goodbye,
Goodbye to each sorrow and sigh.
Heaven is near, and I can't stay here,
Goodbye, world, goodbye.

Now don't you weep for me when I'm gone
For I won't have to leave here alone.
And when I hear that last trumpet sound
My feet won't stay on the ground.
I'm gonna rise with a shout, gonna fly,
Gonna rise with my Lord in the sky.
Heaven is near, and I can't stay here,
Goodbye, world, goodbye.
